“I paint to discover the light hidden within the layers.”
About Maureen Weber
Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here and grateful you’ve found your way to my work.
I paint because I’m endlessly drawn to color, light, and the quiet transformation that happens when layers begin to reveal something unexpected. Each painting unfolds slowly—built through layers of paint that are brushed, sanded, veiled, and revealed again—until a sense of balance and luminosity begins to emerge.
My work moves between abstraction, landscape, and floral forms. Living near the coast, I’m often inspired by the softness of ocean air, shifting skies, and the simple beauty of gathered flowers. These moments become starting points rather than destinations. I’m less interested in describing a specific place than in creating a feeling—spaces where color softens, forms dissolve, and light becomes the central presence.
Many of my paintings explore the idea of light slowly gathering and revealing itself over time. Surfaces hold traces of what came before, creating depth, warmth, and subtle movement within the work.
Ultimately, I hope these paintings bring a sense of calm, beauty, and luminous energy into the spaces where they live—quiet reminders to pause, breathe, and notice the light around us.
Thank you for being here.
Process
My paintings evolve through an intuitive process of layering, sanding, and veiling color. I often build many thin layers, allowing earlier marks and textures to remain visible beneath the surface. Over time this gradual process creates depth and atmosphere, allowing light to emerge from within the painting.
Each piece becomes a conversation between control and discovery—guided by instinct, patience, and a willingness to let the work reveal itself over time.
Studio Notes
Based near the California coast, my work is inspired by shifting light, ocean air, gathered florals, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments. I work primarily in oil and acrylic, exploring surfaces that feel both luminous and layered.
